shop and house. Early C19. Tile hung on painted brick base. Plain tiled roof.
The corner building of the block including the Bell and Jorrocks Public House (see item 13/7) the front elevation treated as a continuation of that facade,
of 2 storeys, with hipped roof and stack to right. Single sash with vertical glazing bars on first floor, and projecting early C20 shop front on ground
floor, with plate glass windows, valanced cornice and recessed central glazed window. Left return with tile hanging in part with fish scale tiles, the
return elevations of the Stores and the adjoining Manchester House again
treated as a single elevation, of 2 storeys, basement and hipped roof, with
large tripartite sash to left and 3 glazing bar sashes on first floor and
central sash on ground floor. Door of 6 panels to centre left with rectangular fanlight and moulded cornice on enriched consoles, at head of flight of 3
steps and half-landing with simple iron rails. Boarded door to left, at lower level, with rectangular fanlight and sidelights. Two basement openings to
centre. Boarded gate and rectangular fanlight to passage attached at left. Manchester house, although structurally indistinguishable from the Stores,
fronts onto the street and is therefore cross-referenced in this List under
THE STREET, (south-east side), FRITTENDEN
