barrel chests and chest
tomb about 25 metres
east of Church of St
Mary

Headstone to Stephen and Mary Groombridge, d.1785, and their daughter Mary,
d.1790. Stone. About 4 feet high, with beaded edging and palm-fronds to head,
and with large, moulded oval panel bearing inscription in good quality script.
Headstone with 2 attached barrel chest tombs on moulded base, the stone about 4
feet high, to Thomas (d.1797) and Mary Groombridge (d.1795) and 6 dead children
buried at Westminster. Triple headed stone with garland hanging from ribbon-bow,
from which is also suspended an oval inscription plaque, the 6 children recorded
on draped cloth below. Chest tomb. Early C18, with ogee moulded base and reverse
ogee moulded top slab. Illegible inscription on side panels and end panel with
crude incised death's head with motto 'memento mori' and scrolled surrounds.
