House. C15, altered C16 to C17 and restored late C20. Timber framed and
exposed with plaster infill. Plain tiled roof. Wealden hall house with exten-
sive rear wings. Two storeys on stone plinth to right, with continuous jetting,
that to the originally fully recessed central hall bays at higher level, the
eaves carried on arched braces, now incorporated into the walling. Hipped roof
with large gablets and stack to centre right. Four leaded wooden casements on
1st floor, the central 2 with mullions and transoms, and 3 on ground floor, that
to centre left with mullions and transoms. Plank and stud door to centre right
with restored arched doorway made of 2 derns. The roof pitch to end right is
steeper with larger gablet than to left with lower 2 storey framed wing to
rear. Interior: framing and roof structure confirms that the end right bay has
been altered (probably C16 up to the new wing). Crown post roof, the central
hall post octagonal and moulded with capital and base. Transverse crown post to
upper end chamber, rebuilt roof to lower (ie right end) chamber. Large ingle-
nook fireplaces to hall stud and to rear wing, and stone lined cellar.
