17/326 Barretts Green Farmhouse

House. C15, altered and extended late C16, clad early C18. Timber framed and
tile hung on red and blue brick ground floor, the brickwork in different bonds and
builds. Plain tiled roof. Hall house, part rebuilt to lobby entry plan. Two
storeys, with roof hipped to left, stepped up and half-hipped to right, with stack
to centre left. Three wooden casements on first floor, 2 on ground floor, those
to left on each floor set at lower level. Boarded door to centre left. Catslide
outshot to rear. Interior: soot blackened rafters to earlier, hipped section of
roof, staggered purlin to C16 half-glazed roof. Frame visible, with tension-
braced large panels to earlier section. Massive chamfered spine beam in later
section. Very large stack of dressed sandstone, with 13 feet wide inglenook with
chamfered bressummer. Upper storey with brick fireplace with chamfered wooden
bressummer, and stone fireplace with chamfered jambs, stopped half-height with
fleur-de-lys. Wooden newel stair to attic dated: W.1738.
