Nos 1 to 3 Riseden Clockhouse
(formerly listed as The Stables of Riseden)

II

Stable block, now house row. C18 and converted and extended c.1970. Red brick
and slate roof. Two storeys on plinth with brick corbelled and dentilated eaves.
Hipped roof with central broken pediment, gable over projecting centre piece, with
octagonal louvred cupola with ogee-shaped roof. Stacks to end left and to end
right. The centre piece, the former coach-house has clockface within the pediment,
tripartite casement arrangement on first floor, the centre dropped, with
gauged segmental head and traceried fanlight. Ground floor with 2 gauged segmental
carriage entrances on pilasters with imposts, with traceried fanlights, with
multi-paned casements and panelled door to right hand archway. Flanking wings
with two C20 top-hung casements on first floor, the outer ones larger, and multi-
pane 'Georgian Bows' on ground floor, with panelled doors left and right with flat
hoods. C20 outshot to left with irregular casements and flat-roofed dormer.
Although the quality of the C20 fenestration and extension is uniformly poor and
inappropriate, the openings and structure of the building remain complete and
intact, its integrity as a listable structure remains.
