30.10.85 and steps
GV II
Inner basin walls, bollards, slipway and steps. 1750-c.1790. Military
road (north-west side of basin) 1805. Faced with granite with granite
coping: flights of steps and slipway and 27 granite bollards. The inner
basin was originally conceived by Smeaton to provide a head of water to
scour out the outer harbour (see crosswall etc and sluices, item 13 & 19/347).
