House pair. 1840's. Pebble dashed and rendered with slate roof, with
Greek Revival details. Three storeys and basement, with rusticated
base only to No. 16 now, central projection, and hipped double span
roof with central stack. Four bay front, with narrow glazing bar sashes
on each floor to left and right, and central paired wooden casements on
second floor, and French windows on first and ground floors, with
pediments and balconies on first floor and anthemion enriched cornices
on brackets and balconies on ground floor. Large glazing bar sashes to
left and to right to basement. Entry on return elevations, those of 3
bays, with the outer 2 blank and central glazing bar sashes. Panelled
door to No. 17, half-glazed to No. 16, both with rectangular fanlights
in columned porches. Part of J.C. Eddel's development of Vale Square
(for historical details see item 12/389).
