The Old Mill
TQ 55 NW/3/104
This was originally an old lace mill started by a French Huguenot family
called Nouaille who settled in this locality after the revocation of the
Edict of Nantes. In the C19 it became a flour mill and is now electrically
driven and owned by a firm of timber merchants. The structure of the
mill buildings today is mostly C19 with weatherboarded elevations, about
6 storeys, including lofts, eaves and gutter and tiled roof. The base of
random stone with brick quoins and dressings is probably Cl8.
