5/50 Nos. 1-6 Abbeygate Cottages

Possibly 2 house, now 6 cottages. Late C15 or early C16. Timber
framed. Ground floor now chequered red and grey brick in Flemish
bond, first floor hung with plain tiles, with plain tile roof.
2 storeys on plinth. Nos. 5-3 under one roof, hipped with
gablet at right end. Multiple stack off-centre to left. Irreg-
ular fenestration of one 3-light casement towards left end,
one 2-light casement under stack and four evenly-spaced 3-light
casements between centre and right end. 3 doors; that to No. 3
well to left of stack, with fielded panels and flat bracketted hood,
that to No. 4 to right of stack, boarded, and that to No. 5 to
left end, half-glazed. No. 2 under slightly less steeply pitched
roof with rear stack at left end. 2 two-light first floor
casements and C19 boarded door with flat bracketted hood.
No. I in 2 sections, both gable end to street, that to left
recessed. Projecting stack on left side elevation of right gable.
3-light casement to each gable. Boarded door to right of right
gable, with flat bracketted hood. No. 6 forms rear wing to No. 5.
Probably timber framed, now with brick ground floor, tile-hung
first floor and plain tile roof. Set lower than No. 5. Has 2-
storey brick extension to right and rear lean-to.
