TQ 76 SE DETLING SCRAGGED OAK ROAD

House. Late C15 or early C16. Timber framed with rendered infilling,
left end possibly rebuilt with studs painted on render, and C20
tile-hung gable. Wealden house of 4 bays with 2-by open hall,
the left bay of which only about 4 feet long, right end bay storeyed,
left end bay possibly rebuilt. 2 storeys, all but left end bay
on plinth. Right end bay has bracketted jetty. Heavy cill to
right bay of hall about 2 feet above ground cill, possibly base
of hall window. Close-studded, with slightly more widely spaced
studs on first floor. Curved braces to flying wall-plate, arch
braces (left end painted) at end of each end bay. Roof hipped to
right. Stack in front slope of roof, off-centre to left. Irregular
fenestration of 3,2 and 3-light C19 or C20 casements. Ribbed door
in narrow left end bay of former open hall, with simple-plain
tiled canopy over. Rear lean-to.
