Gazebo-cum-boathouse. 1st half of C18. Red brick with occasional
grey headers in Flemish bond with plain tile roof. Square plan,
built out over lake, with rear wall on bank. One semi-circular
headed arch to each of other 3 sides, with red and grey brick
voussors. Arch walls thicker than first floor, forming plinth
rising above arches. Moulded wood eaves cornice. Pyramidal
roof with small brick chimney stack at apex. Single glazing
bar sash to lake end of each side elevation. Weatherboarded canted
bay with leaded roof to lake end elevation, with one glazing-bar sash
to each side and tall round-headed glazing-bar sash to centre,
with roof forming triangular pediment above. Door to first floor
of bank elevation with 6 slightly recessed panels and possibly replaced
flat corniced hood, reached by 2 opposed flights of 9 steps,
each with chanelled cement render and plain iron handrail.
Opening, now doorless, in wall of steps beneath door, leading to
passage within walls along bank. Curved niche at either end of
passage, window opening over water, and door opening with 2
steps down to water. Interior not inspected. Reputed to contain early C18
panelling and chimney-piece.
