LENHAM THE SQUARE

GV II
Shop. Early C17, restored late C20. 3 low storeys. Timber-framed
with plaster infilling and plain tile roof. Fragment of range parallel
to street, with cross-wing to right end, roofed as cross-wing
but with front elevation treated as rest of range. Close-studded
with mid-rail to right half of first floor. Second floor only half-
height, but jettied along whole of remaining front elevation. Internal
evidence for jetty to first floor. Moulded second-floor jetty
bressumer and moulded wood eaves cornice. Tall rear brick stack. No
windows to second floor. Traces of central oriel window to first floor
with 3-light frieze window with ovolo-moulded wood mullions, to left.
Glazing-bar sash in place of oriel. Late C20 ground-floor shop front.
Interior: exposed beams and posts, partly rebuilt.
