House, formerly cottages, now house. C17, with C18 or early C19,
and early-to-mid C19 additions. Timber framed, with (probably later)
red and grey brick infilling in stretcher bond with herringbone top
course. Right (west) addition painted brick, with two first-floor studs.
End addition painted brick on ground floor, combed rendering to first
floor. Thatched roof. 4 timber-framed bays, built at right-angles to
road, facing north. Single-bay addition to right, probably C18 or early
C19. Early-to-mid C19 addition to right end, breaking forwards slightly.
Main range 1½ storeys, right addition 2 storeys, end addition 2 storeys
and attic. Stone plinth to main range. Roof of main range half-hipped
to left (east), and continuous with addition. to right. End addition
gabled, with slightly higher eaves and ridge. Multiple red brick stack
to main range, in right end of second bay from left, and brick ridge
stack to centre of end addition. Irregular fenestration of 4 first-floor
windows; one two-light casement to apex of porch, one to right addition,
another to left of end addition, and one pointed 'lancet' to right end.
Ground floor has one two-light casement to left and one three-light case-
ment to right, of porch, one two-light casement to right addition and two
two-light casements to end addition. Pointed 'lancet' to short left
return of end addition. Early C19 gabled timber-framed porch under main
range stack, with painted brick infilling, thatched roof, and boarded
door with triangular head flanked by leaded trefoil-headed painted brick
windows. Half-glazed door with flat hood to left end of end addition
Short gabled C19 addition to rear of main range stack, with further stack
to its right side. Thatched hooded bell to apex of right gable, with
loading door under. Interior: exposed framing. Gunstock-jowled posts
and arch-braced tie-beams, except to truss between left and left-central
bays. Clasped-purlin roof to main range. Right gable end of main range
has (now visible internally) long curved tension braces passing across
midrail. Fireplace with chamfered stone jambs and high bressumer to
right side of stack, slightly later brick fireplace with bressumer to left
side. Fireplace in rear addition surrounded with small (re-used or copied?)
decorative terracotta bricks dated 1562.
