5/46 The Manor House

GV II

House. C17 with late C18, early C19 and C20 alterations. Timber framed.
Ground floor underbuilt in painted brick, first floor rendered, with applied
C20 close-studding. Right gable end channelled render with tile hung gable.
C17 range with continuous jetty altered in C18 and with early C19 bay added
to right. 2 storeys, left section with attic. Moulded jetty bressumer to
left section. Higher eaves and first floor to right section. Projecting
stack to left and large stack parallel to ridge to right end of C17 section.
Rear dormers. Irregular fenestration of 3 windows; two 16-pane glazing bar
sashes to left section and tripartite sash to right bay. Panelled door
under C20 open porch to centre of left section. Fragment of wood with bead
moulding and date 1631 hung over door. Rendered right return wing with 2
stacks. Rear lean-to to left section. Interior: a few exposed timbers and
chamfer-stopped beams. Staircase against chimney stack on front side of house,
with moulded cheeks, slender balusters of 2 periods and one (probably re-used)
C17 turned newel-post with ball finial.
