6/89 Wellbrook Farmhouse

12.7.85 II


Farmhouse. C16 to early C19. Timber framed and clad with mathematical tiles,
with plain tile hanging to left return. Plain tiled roof. C16 rear ranges
fronted with new wing c.1700, extended and clad c.1800 with mathematical tile.
Two storeys and basement on plinth with moulded eaves cornice to hipped roof,
stepped down to hipped extensions to left and to right. Stacks to rear left
and rear right. Five wooden casements on first floor 1:3:1, and 3 large
multi-light metal casements on ground floor. Boarded door to left with flat
hood, and central door of 6 panels with half-glazed outer door. Pedimented
surround on projecting pilasters, with flight of 6 steps and ball finials to
side wall piers. Basement opening to right. Interior: moulded ceiling beams
and mantel beams; moulded wooden cornices; wainscotted room (all in c.1700 wing). Exposed frame elsewhere. Newel staircase. The c.1800 casements are of iron outside and bronze or brass inside.
