2/163 Nos 1-12 (Consecutive)


3 double pairs of houses. Circa mid C19. Stock brick, stuccoed ground floors and
band below eaves. Welsh slate hipped roofs with deeply overhanging eaves on
stuccoed scrolled brackets. The roof slates of Nos 1 to 4 have been replaced by
plain tiles, Nos 5 and 6 with concrete tiles. Rendered axial stacks over ridges.
Plan: Group of 3 symmetrically planned blocks, each block contains 4 houses of
double, the centre houses of each block have their doorways symmetrically disposed
on the front and the end houses have doorways in 3-storey porches set back of the
sides. Exterior: 3 storeys and basement, each block has a symmetrical 1:4:1 window
front, the narrow end bays set back are 3 storey porches. The ground floors and
basements are stuccoed and there is a deep entablature over the ground floor which
breaks forward at the doorways which have stuccoed pilasters with capitals. There
is a deep stuccoed band and brackets under the eaves. Original 12-pane sashes
except for No 5 which has C20 plastic windows and the first floor window of No 2
which is a late C19 canted bay with sashes complete with glazing bars. All the
doors except for Nos 8, 9 and 12 are C20 replacements. Some of the houses have
their C19 balustrades to the doorways but only No 3 has its C19 area railings.
No 1 has a garage in the basement with a large doorway at the front. The rear
elevations are of random brick rubble, largely unaltered and retain the original
sash windows except for Nos 1 and 5 which are rendered and No 5 has plastic windows.
Interiors not inspected but expected to retain some original features such as
joinery, chimneypieces and staircases.
