GOODNESTONE THE STREET

(West side)
3/98 Gate piers
about 20 metres
south west and
wall to church-
yard of Church
of Holy Cross
GV II
Gate piers. Early C18. Red brick in 2 shades, with stone cap. About 8
feel high, with plinth and stone ball finials (1 ball missing), the piers
are about 10 yards apart and joined by the stone base to a missing iron
rail, with 2 central steps. The whole originally formed a ceremonial
entrance to the churchyard from Goodnestone Park. The wall, terminated
at the west end by a pier with a ball finial, varies in height from about
6 feet to about 10 feet at the east end where it adjoins Lindley House,
and is almost entirely mid C19, although there are traces of an earlier
wall.
