Rodger chest tomb approximately 2 metres west of the tower of the Church of St Mary

Large chest tomb. Dated 1882 in memory of Robert Rodger. White marble on limestone and brick plinth. Gothick style. Chest has panelled sides, three on the long sides and one each end; all cusped with sunk spandrels/corners. Thick lid has ridged top with a fleuree cross, moulded edges and cornice. Base is moulded above a band of cusped trefoils. One step plinth on brick foundations. Base contains a coat of arms on east end and inscription in panel above of inlaid lead. It records the deaths of Robert Rodger of Hadlow Castle (q.v.) in 1882 and of his wife Sophia in 1884. The tomb is surrounded by coping stones containing the sockets from iron area railings.
