Description

1.
5272 PLUCKLEY DOWLE STREET ROAD
Dowle Street Cottages
TQ 94 SW 14/136 14.2.67.
II*
2.
This building was the original Dowle Street Farmhouse. Probably C15 timber-framed
building, with plaster infilling and curved braces on the first floor. Steeply-pitched
hipped tiled roof. One bay on ground and first floors with gable over. The
first floor window in this has 2 tiers of 6 lights with wooden mullions and
transoms. Three casement windows. Doorcase with flat hood on brackets. The
first floor of the north-east front oversails on the protruding ends of the
floor joists. The first floor of the south-west front also did so originally
but has been underbuilt in brick, now painted, with a pentice addition. A
good example of a late mediaeval hall-house.
