3/194 Nos 1 and 2 Brown's House (formerly listed as
Jenny Brown's House at Jenny Brown's Point)
2. 5. 1968

Houses, mid C18th, probably with later raising of the eaves height and
conversion of non-domestic buildings. Limestone rubble with some sandstone
dressings and slate roof. 2 storeys with attic. The central portion appears
to be the oldest, with a gabled stone porch, a 2-light chamfered mullioned
window of mid C18th type to its right, a similar window on the 1st floor and
an attic window with plain reveals and glazing bars. To the right of this
is a straight joint, with 2 sashed windows with cement reveals beyond on the
ground floor, a sashed window on the 1st floor with reveals partly of brick,
and a door with plain reveals'at the far right. Chimneys on each side of the
central portion. Right-hand gable has triple sashes with plain stone surrounds
and square mullions on the 1st and attic floors. At the rear is a later
lean-to with sashed windows. The left-hand house has modern windows and a
door with plain reveals, a straight joint which terminates at 1st floor window
level and suggests a roof raise, and evidence for blocked doorways. Interior,
central, C18th, portion has a C18th fireplace with the jambs treated as
pilasters, a fluted false keystone and a cornice mantelo
