GV II

Mausoleum, 1873 by W.& G. Audsley. Built for Preston family of Ellel
Grange (q.v.). Coursed rock-faced sandstone with steep slate roof. Walls
have a weathered offset above a plinth. Gables have copings. The doorway, in
the east gable wall, has a pointed arch moulded in 2 orders having angle
shafts with foliated capitals. The tympanum has a carved scene of the
Resurrection. The west window is of 4 lights with Geometric tracery. Inside,
the side walls have 5-bay blank arcades with pointed arches and columns with
foliated capitals. The western arcades contain memorial tablets, some now
damaged. Under the west window is an inscribed granite tablet within a
sandstone border with Gothic carving.
