House, 1701. Sandstone rubble with steep slate roof. Originally
end-lobby-entry plan. 2 storeys with attic, 3 bays. Windows have remains of
rebated and chamfered surrounds and are either sashed or 6-pane sashes. Door,
now blocked to form a window, in left-hand bay, has chamfered surround with
'WCE 1701' on lintel. Gables have copings with kneelers and chimneys. The
left-hand chimney cap projects on stone corbels; the right-hand cap has a
weathered offset and cyma cornice. At the rear are 3 2-light mullioned
windows (one blocked), one formerly of 4 lights with one mullion remaining,
and a one-light chamfered stair window. Inside, the ground floor is divided
by a roughly framed wattle-and-daub partition. The main living room has 2
chamfered axial main ceiling joists, spliced near the gable wall where the
firehood bressumer which once supported them has been removed. On the 1st
floor, at the opposite end, is a chamfered stone fireplace, possibly for a
parlour. The roof has 2 trusses with tie beams and light collars, re-using
cruck timber.
