SD 56 SW QUERNMORE LITTLESDALE ROAD
5/182 Castle Mill
Corn mill, now used as farm building, 1818. Sandstone rubble with slate roof.
2 and 3 storeys. North-west wall has C20th lean-to at left. Further right
are 2 bays having sashed windows with plain stone surrounds on the 1st and 2nd
floors. On the ground floor is a 2-light window with plain stone surround,
square mullion, and glazing bars. To its left is a door with plain stone
surround. Projecting forwards at the right are the stone walls which house a
34½-foot-diameter 4-foot-wide pitchback water wheel with wooden buckets, rim
drive, and metal arms and tie bars. At the rear is a wide barn entrance at
1st floor level, reached by a ramp, and a wing containing a drying kiln.
Interior said to have complete mill machinery, including mill wheels. Price,
