Description

GRESSINGHAM ESKRIGGE
SD 56 NE

7/92 Eskrigge House

GV II

House, probably mid C18th with C17th remains and later alterations.
Sandstone rubble with slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Windows have flush
chamfered mullions and are of 2 lights except for the ground-floor one to
bay 2, which is of 3 lights. To the right of the 1st bay is a chamfered
door surround with battlemented lintel, now blocked and containing a
window. To its right is a modern gabled stone porch having a door with
plain reveals. Chimneys on gables and to right of 2nd bay. Rear (west)
wall has stair window, and 2 small lst floor windows of C17th type, having
chamfered surrounds with their central mullions removed. The left-hand
ground-floor window has a lintel removed from a nearby house, inscribed
'DAIRY': a window marked thus would be exempt from window tax.
