Toll House)

House, formerly toll house on Lancaster to Richmond Turnpike (Act
1750). Probably late C18th. Slobbered squared sandstone with stone slate
roof. Central part of facade of storeys and 2 bays under a gable with
projecting purlins. The ground-floor windows have rendered surrounds with
round heads and projecting stone sills. On the 1st floor are casement
windows with plain stone surrounds. Each return wall has a ground-floor
window with round head. At each side of the central projecting block is a
single-storey bay with similar window, under a lean-to which continues the
line of the main roof. The right-hand projection has a door with plain
stone surround to the left of the window. Chimneys on each side of the
central block.
