Description

HORNBY-WITH-FARLETON STATION ROAD (west side)
SD 56 NE

7/128 Drinking fountain adjoining No.2
(Lambs' Garage)

GV II

Drinking fountain, late C19th. Sandstone. The spout, which is a cast
lion's head, is set within a recess with moulded pointed arch. In front a
trough is formed by a low wall with coping, segmental on plan. A surround
is formed by a rubble wall with a moulded coping swept upwards at the
centre. Above the arch is a plaque carved with a cat holding a rat, the
monogram of Pudsey Dawson, and date '1858'. This was removed from the
first Cat and Rat Bridge which carried the Wennington to Morecambe railway
line over the A683 west of the village and which was replaced by an iron
bridge when the track was doubled.
