2/210 South Lodge with adjoining gate
piers and their flanking walls

Lodge to Whittington Hall (q.v.), probably 1830s by George Webster.
Sandstone rubble with slate roof. One storey with attic. North-east wall,
facing drive, has one bay on each side of a central projection with steep
gable. The windows are chamfered, with 2 lights divided by a transom. The
central projection has a studded door with strap hinges in a chamfered
surround with triangular head. Above is a blank square recess. The
south-east wall, facing the road, has a gabled projection which has a
canted bay window with coping. The window has mullions and transoms, with
6 lights at the front and 2 lights to each canted side. To the left is one
bay which has a timber attic dormer with shaped bargeboards. All the
gables have copings. Chimneys have paired shafts and are on left-hand
gable and to left of gabled projection. The gate piers are of sandstone
ashlar and are octagonal with moulded caps and ball finials. They have
concave flanking walls with copings, the left-hand one forming a link to
the lodge.
