SD 55 SE OVER WYRESDALE

12/12 Hawthornthwaite Farmhouse
2-5-1968
- II

House, 1674. Sandstone rubble with stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays.
Windows have ovolo-moulded mullions and rebated surrounds and are of 3
lights at the left and 2 at the right. The mullion has been removed from
the right-hand ground-floor window. The door, between bays, has a
chamfered surround under a porch with monolithic sides and a pitched roof
of 2 sandstone flags. Gable chimneys. At the rear is a wing with mullioned
windows, which appears to be a C19th addition. Inside, the left-hand room
has a moulded shouldered fireplace and a spice cupboard with a door
inscribed: 'IEH 1674'.
