House, mid C18th, with C17th house to west now used as farm building.
Sandstone rubble with stone slate roof. House of 2 storeys and 3 bays.
Windows have flat-faced mullions and plain stone surrounds, and are of 3
lights except for the left-hand one on the ground floor which is of 4
lights and the central one on the 1st floor which is of 2 lights. Door, in
central bay, has plain stone surround. At the right of the door there
appears to be a blocked doorway. Gable chimneys. Set back at the left is
part of the C17th building, which has 2 2-light rebated and chamfered
mullioned windows under one hood on the ground floor and one similar
window above. Further left, and set back slightly, is a former house,
probably early C17th, which originally had a roof of steeper pitch. Its
front wall now has a wide entrance with plain reveals and concrete lintel.
Its windows are blocked. To the right is one with rebated and chamfered
surround. To the left is a similar window of 2 lights with hood. Above it
is a one-light chamfered window with segmental head. The left-hand (west)
gable wall has a chimney stack carried on corbels at 1st floor level. To
its right are blocked windows: one of one light with chamfer on the ground
floor and one of 2 lights with rebate and chamfer above. The rear wall has
a one-light rebated and chamfered window on the 1st floor towards the
left. Further right is a door with plain reveals. A dog-leg in a straight
joint near this point suggests a sequence of rebuilding and alteration of
roof pitch. Further right is a blocked doorway with long-and-short jambs,
a chamfered one-light window with segmental head, and a blocked window. On
the 1st floor are 2 pitching holes with re-used C17th dressings. Inside
there is a modern 1st floor at a higher level than the original. The roof
trusses and fireplace were not accessible at time of survey.
