Description

SD 66 NE TATHAM

3/85 Knott Hill and barn adjoining to
4-10-1967 west

- II

House and barn, 1734. Sandstone rubble with roof of slate at front and
stone slate at rear. 2 storeys, 2 bays. Windows, of 3 lights on ground
floor and 2 lights above, have stone surrounds with a slight chamfer and
flat-faced mullions. Between bays is a porch with chamfered quoins and a
gable with coping and kneelers and with a chamfered doorway with an oqee
shape on the lintel. Above the porch is an oval plaque inscribed: 'CAL
1734'. End chimneys. The barn at the left appears to be of the same build,
but quoins under the level of its eaves at the junction with the house
suggest that its roof pitch may originally have been steeper. It has a
wide entrance with plain reveals and segmental arch, the upper part of the
opening now filled in. To its right is a 1st floor window with plain
reveals. At the rear of the house a chamfered cross window lights the
stair.
