SD 78 44 DOWNHAM DOWNHAM VILLAGE

13/21 Downham Church of England School
13.2.1967
GV II

School, 1839. Squared limestone with sandstone dressings and slate roof.
One storey . On each side of the porch is a 5-light mullioned window
with inner hollow chamfer, outer chamfer, and hood. The porch has a
similar 2-light window and a moulded open pediment with mutules. Within
the pediment is a plaque inscribed 'AD 1839'. The door, in the left-hand
return wall of the porch, has a chamfered stone surround. Mutules at
eaves. End stacks. Both gables are treated as moulded open pediments
with mutules. Adjoining to the south is a lower wing with similar
details. Its front wall has a chamfered stone door surround, and a
window to the right with plain stone surround which appears to be a
recent insertion. The southern gable has a 2-light mullioned window.
