Tomb chest, c.1836. Carboniferous limestone in the form of a Greek
sarcophagus on a plinth. Battered, simply panelled chest with austere,
monolithic roof-slab formed as low cross-pediments with antefixae.
Commemorates Edward Birley, younger brother of the builder of Hillside on
Preston Street (q.v.) who died in 1811, and Elizabeth, his wife, who died
in 1836.
