Farmhouse, late C17. Handmade brick with some stone quoins (porch and left
corner), slate roof with double chimney stack behind the ridge towards the
left, and right gable chimney. Early example of double-depth 4-room plan with
projecting porch and lateral passage leading to staircase. Two storeys with
attic and cellar, symmetrical except for fenestration; full-height gabled
porch has arched doorway (perhaps altered) and studded inner door, and 1st
floor window of 3 pointed lights, labels with double-returned ends over both
these (gable above finished with modern brick); sashed window to the left, and
sliding sash windows at 1st floor each side of porch are later insertions, but
remains of former brick-mullion windows are visible: 2 on each floor to left
(all 2 lights with labels) and 2 of 3 lights at ground floor to right, with
linked labels; both return walls have similar 2-light windows on all floors
including attic. Interior: large beams in all rooms, those in front left with
cyma-stopped rounded chamfer, those in both rooms to right supported by
unusual tapered strengtheners; massive chimney stack at 1st floor, corbelled
out in the roof space above; principal rafter roof truss with wattle-and-daub
infill; remains of diamond leaded glazing in blocked attic windows.
