War memorial, early 1920's. Limestone pedestal and statue, iron railings on
sandstone base. Memorial has square plinth, tapered pedestal with recessed
panels, and a moulded cornice, on top of which is a statue of a soldier in a
cap standing with his hands resting on the butt of a rifle with muzzle to the
ground. East panel of pedestal lettered "IN/MEMORY OF/THE/MEDLAR AND
WESHAM/HEROES/WHO FELL/IN THE/WORLD WARS/1914-1918/AND/1939-1945/THEIR NAMES
SHALL/LIVE FOR EVER"; other 3 panels lettered with the names. Small elongated
enclosure with rounded ends, simple iron railings each of the long sides
having 3 ornamental panels with heart-shapes at the top. (Victorian iron
gaslamp standard, with altered lantern, inside the enclosure, is not included
in the item).
