CLAYTON-LE-MOORS
BLACKBURN ROAD
Nos 1 and 2 (Holt Mill Cottages)

(Formerly listed as HERMITAGE STREET Nos. 1 and 2 Holt Mill Cottages)

G.V.
II

Pair of cottages, probably mid-C18, now one house. Coursed sandstone rubble (whitewashed), slate roof with gable chimneys (one of brick). Double pile two-bay plan. Two storeys, symmetrical; originally coupled doorways in centre, one blocked, the other protected by a gabled porch with stone slate roof, stone side bench and inner studded door; on each floor, two three-light windows with flush stone mullions. Rear has two similar windows, one at ground floor partly altered, other at first floor (two lights only), and a sliding sash window with glazing bars.

(The item is at left end of a short row, Holt Mill House (q.v.) is other end; but barn linking them in centre is not included in the item).
