Base of cross on verge of road. Perhaps late medieval. Sandstone.
Roughly hewn and slightly tapered block c. ½ metre square, with recess or
socket in top for former cross shaft. (History: perhaps associated with a
former market; according to Frost (Briercliffe) 3 fields in the vicinity
bore names including the word "chipping".)
