HURSTWOOD

3/46 Hollins Farmhouse

GV II

Coachhouse and stable block to Hollins Hall, now house. Probably 1818; altered.
Watershot coursed sandstone with quoins, 3-span stone slate roof. Three bays,
formerly with central recessed wagon entrance flanked by gabled wings, but the
centre now built up flush with the wings. Two storeys, in Jacobean style matching
Hollins Hall (qv) on a smaller scale, and presenting 3 gables to the front: each
wing has a blocked Tudor-arched doorway near the outer corner, a tall mullioned
window of 4 round-headed lights at ground floor, a recessed sashed window at
1st floor (12 panes in the left wing, 15 in the right), a little bullseye in
the apex of the gable, and stone gable coping with kneelers and apex ball finial;
the narrower centre has a chamfered doorway with panelled door and 3-pane
rectangular fanlight, and openings above matching those of the wings but smaller;
all these openings have hoodmoulds. Left return wall has tall tripartite window
at ground floor,small window towards rear of 1st floor. Right return wall has
small single-storey wing with gable chimney (probably washhouse). Large chimney
stacks at rear gables of wings. Listed for group value.
