6/34 Breworth Fold Farmhouse (west)

Farmhouse, now house. Later C17, enlarged in C18, altered. Coursed sandstone
rubble with some quoins, slate roof. L-shaped plan: 2-bay baffle-entry house
with early extension to left of 1st bay, and later 2-bay wing to front of 2nd
bay, shallow rear outshut to 2nd bay and matching outshut to rear of left end.
Two storeys; former doorway to left end of original 1st bay with moulded
surround and large rectangular lintel, now blocked, an inserted door to the
left with a blocked 1st floor doorway above, at ground floor a recessed
4-light window with hollow-moulded mullions and hoodmould and above a 3-light
flush mullion window; to right of former door an altered 3-light window on
each floor. Left gable has small blocked square opening at ground floor and 2
at attic level, modern 3-light window on each floor; right gable has one long
recessed mullion window on each floor, the lower of 5 lights and the upper
formerly 6 lights with a king mullion, now lacking 3 mullions, both these with
hoodmoulds; rear has inter alia a similar 5-light window at ground floor of
set-back centre, a continuous dripstone over it, and a similar 3-light window
at ground floor of 2nd bay; eaves at rear appear to have been raised. C18
wing to front is of less interest. Interior: altered in C18; C17 stone heck
and 2 moulded beams remain, but these have scarf joints in position of former
bressummer, and present stone fireplace has panelled jambs and lintel with
false keystone, fluted frieze; added 1st bay has C18 stone fireplace with
corbelled jambs and segmental lintel.
