Farmhouse, now house. Probably later C17, altered and part remodelled in
C18 and C19. Mostly cruck-framed with cladding of brick on high plinth of
sandstone rubble, with corrugated asbestos sheet roof, except 3rd bay which
is all brick with stone slate roof. Rectangular 3-bay baffle-entry plan.
One and a half storeys with 3rd bay rebuilt as 2-storey crosswing within
the rectangle. Upper part of front part wall of first 2 bays rebuilt in
common brick, openings remodelled with large splayed stone heads: main
doorway in line with ridge/junction chimney stack at right hand end of 2nd
bay, another door to the 1st bay, and to the left of each door a casement
window; dormer casement in eaves of 2nd bay; 3rd bay has one C19 vertical
rectangular window on each floor. Large chimney stack at junction of 2nd
bay and wing, the sheet roof here interrupted by stone slate on a lower
level; small brick chimney at left gable. Left gable wall has exposed
raised cruck truss with tie beam, infilling of common brick. Rear has
small outshut to staircase at junction of 2nd bay and wing, with a 3-light
sliding sash window, and small lean-to addition to 1st bay. Interior:
housepart in centre has heck with peephole, one large cambered beam with
unstopped ovolo moulding; cruck blades visible in partition, which has
framed doorway with cambered lintel. 3rd bay has 2 longitudinal beams
similarly decorated; 1st bay is partitioned; re-located staircase to rear
of main hearth in 2nd bay, rising in 3rd bay; at 1st floor substantial
remains of original cruck-framed structure, including a raised truss in the
partition between the 1st and 2nd bays, this and the truss in the gable
wall both with collars, yokes, and trenched windbraced purlins carrying
original rafters; doorway framed into 2nd truss has nicked cambered
lintel.
