6/224 Stanworth Farmhouse
- II

Farmhouse. C17, probably in 2 builds and formerly 2 dwellings. Coursed
sandstone rubble with quoins, mostly rendered, slate roof. L-shaped plan
formed by 3-bay range on north-south axis with long 2-bay wing added to west
side of northern end. All 2 storeys; entrance front on east side has 2
doorways in centre, that on the left covered by a large lean-to porch, altered
windows at each end of ground floor, and 3 stone mullioned windows at 1st
floor: in centre and to right both 4-lights, recessed, with cavetto mullions;
2-light flush mullion window to left is a recent insertion. Left gable has
similar windows of 3 and 2 lights at ground floor and 4 lights above (the
latter with 2 replacement mullions); right gable has a 2-light window on each
floor towards the rear, the lower blocked and the upper altered as a sliding
sash; and a brick chimney. Rear has windows of 2 and 4 lights at ground
floor, 4 lights above. The added range has similarly recessed windows but
with chamfered mullions, and those at ground floor have hoodmoulds: to the
left 3 lights, to the right 4 + 2 lights with a king mullion (lst 3 lights
blocked), and at 1st floor 4, 5 (outer lights blocked) and 2 lights (lacking
mullion); left gable has one inserted window on each window on each floor, and
a brick chimney; rear has inter alia a 3-light window at 1st floor, and a
single-storey gabled kitchen extension. Interior: altered, but 3rd bay of
earlier range has large stop-chamfered beams, and post and rail timber framed
partition wall; addition has chamfered beams with run-out stops, and kitchen
still in C19 condition, with flagged floor, oven-and-boiler range, etc.
