SD 82 SE BACUP BANKSIDE LANE

House, mid-C19, (possibly remodelling of earlier building) now 2
dwellings. Coursed dressed sandstone, hipped slate roof on 3 levels with
various chimneys. T-plan: 5-bay front block with rear service wing.
Two storeys: symmetrical 5-bay facade with rusticated quoins, sillbands
to both floors, moulded cornice with plain parapet, the outer bays
slightly lower and very slightly set back; in the centre a square single-
storey porch with corner pilasters, plain frieze, projecting cornice and
low parapet, has arched openings with moulded architraves and keystones:
in left side an elliptical-headed door and in front a window with margin
lights and stained glass; 1st floor window above this had moulded cornice
with consoles, outer bays have large canted bay windows at ground floor,
other windows have moulded architraves, and all windows are sashed without
glazing bars. Right return wall has porch similar to that at front.
Extensive service wing to rear in similar but plainer style has some
modern additions at ground floor.
