3/22 Ebenezer Baptist Church

Baptist chapel, also known as Doals Baptist Church, dated 1861.
Dressed gritstone, slate roof with stone gable copings and small
kneelers, chimney at rear gable. Simple rectangular plan, 3 x 4
bays, with smaller 3-bay house at right angles to rear right corner. Gable
to road; 2 storeys, but presenting only the upper storey to the front;
symmetrical, with simple pedimented doorway (panelled door and
rectangular fanlight), one window each side, and datestone above door
lettered EBENEZER . Sides have 4 windows each floor. All windows
have 9-paned fixed glazing. House is 2 storeys, symmetrical, with plain
doorway, 2 windows at ground floor and 3 above, all with altered glazing.
Interior: original furnishings include west gallery with arcaded balusters,
box pews with numbered doors; rostrum, reading desk, and enclosure
(covering font for baptism by immersion) all with ornately decorated iron
balusters. Listed as a modest but internally complete example of its type.
