Probably originally a taking-in warehouse, then public house, and now
two shops with dwelling above, dated 1770 on rainwater head. Watershot
coursed sandstone with quoins, stone slate roof with 2 ridge chimneys and
2 gable chimneys. Two-bay plan, double depth with front extension. Two
and a half storeys presenting 2 gables to road, rainwater head at the
valley lettered H . At ground floor doorway to right of centre has

moulded surround, pilasters, plain frieze and dentilled cornice; inner
porch floor of mosaic lettered WHITE. Double shop window to left, single
HORSE
to right, each with a wavy pediment enclosing a medallion, that on left
lettered MBB as monogram (= Massey Burnley Brewery), other dated "1907";
at 1st floor each side has 2 vertical rectangular windows (now top-hung
casements) and at top floor one round-headed window with imposts and
keystone (that on the left sashed). Rear: some altered flush-mullion
windows at 1st floor. Interior altered. History not known, but possibly
associated with James Howorth, baize manufacturer in early C19.
