Row of 5 cottages in 3 different builds, all c.1800, part altered in early to
mid C19. Watershot coursed sandstone, stone slate roof with 4
irregularly-spaced chimneys on the ridge and one at the right gable. Double
pile, No.5 two bays, others all single bay plan. Two storeys to same height;
vertical joints between Nos. 5 and 5A, and between Nos. 7 and 9; No.5 is
double-fronted, has doorway with plain surround and 2 sashed windows on each
floor; Nos. 5A and 7 have doorways on the left with plain surrounds, one
window on each floor also sashed except fixed window at ground floor of No.5A.
Nos. 9 and 11 of one build but No.9 originally had large segmental-headed
wagon arch in front and rear walls, now both have doorways at outer ends with
plain surrounds and sashed windows on both floors, those at ground floor with
thin glazing bars making 3 panes to each leaf. Rear: similar except all
windows of Nos. 5A to 11 are now top-hung casements. Interiors: said to be
all slightly different; No.11 has stone staircase in rear room.
