7/256 Old House Farmhouse
29.7.1966
- II

Farmhouse and barn under one roof, C18, altered, now house. Watershot
coursed sandstone and random rubble, stone slate roof with 2 ridge
chimneys. Four bays , the 1st and 2nd originally the barn. Two storeys:
principal feature of interest is left gable wall, at south west or weather
end, which projects to front and rear and rises above eaves to stepped and
embattled parapet, pierced at the sides and at the apex with round openings:
this is a windbreaker to prevent damage to roof, said to have been rebuilt
in 1879 to replace a similar feature. Other features include segmental
arched wagon entrance to 2nd bay now glazed as window, 3 breathers under
the eaves of the former barn, coupled horizontal rectangular windows at
ground floor of 3rd bay (glazing altered) and 6-light flush mullion window
above (2 centre lights anciently blocked). Other openings altered. Fourth
bay of random rubble with quoins projects slightly and may be earlier.
