Barn, probably C17. Cruck frame, coursed sandstone rubble cladding with barge
quoins, steeply-pitched corrugated iron roof covering thatch, with
bargeboarding. Three bays, plus lean-to addition at right end; full-height
double wagon doors to the centre, doorway to 1st bay and blocked doorway to
3rd bay, both with large jambstones and rectangular lintels; right gable wall
above level of lean-to has exposed cruck blades in the masonry; left gable
wall has modern lean-to of concrete blocks; rear wall has ragged vertical
joints indicating position of former rear wagon entrance in centre, and right
of this a massive padstone, and a small square window. Interior: 2 full cruck
trusses, the 1st with tie, collar, and yoke, the 2nd similar (but tie severed
at blades) with dorsals, and the rear blade carrying trenched scarf-jointed
purlins with curved windbraces above and below; the truss incorporated in the
gable wall has tie, collar, and yoke, and windbracing; rafters, laths and
remains of roof thatch.
