6/125 Anderton House


Farmhouse, later C17, altered. Cruck-framed, clad in sandstone rubble
rendered at the lower level and all whitewashed, steeply pitched
corrugated iron roof with boxed eaves and brick gable chimneys.
End-baffle-entry plan of 3 bays, the left-end bay probably formerly a
shippon or stable. One and a half storeys; east front has board door
near right hand end protected by wooden porch, another door to the 1st
bay, 3 windows at ground floor, of 3, 2 and 3 lights, all with wooden
mullions and glazing bars but of differing sizes (lower to left, higher
to right), and gabled dormers to the 2nd and 3rd bays, with similar
2-light windows. Right gable (rebuilt in brick) has a 2-light sliding
sash to loft. Rear has a central doorway protected by a wooden porch
like that at front, 2 small square 9-pane fixed windows with some remains
of labels; 1st bay rebuilt in brick. Interior: full cruck truss at
junction of 2nd and 3rd bays (details concealed); housepart in 3rd bay
has inglenook with stop-chamfered bressummer, and 2 beams similarly
