Range of 3 cottages of c1858. By William Butterfield for Viscount Downe.
Red brick with blue black brick decorative band and half-hipped plain
tile roof, part renewed, with 3 ridge and 1 rear part rebuilt brick stacks.
L plan, wing projecting to rear on left. 1½ storeys. No. 3, to left,
has gabled porch with plank door, 8/8 sash to left and tripartite 2/2:
6/6: 2/2 sash to right with 8/8 sash half-hipped half-dormer over. Decorative
wide 1st floor band in zig-zag pattern. The whole front of No. 1 to right
is covered by C20 2 storey extension. No. 5, in wing to rear, has 3-light
casement with 8/8 sash half-hipped half-dormer over, hipped stair projection
to right with 1-light, and door. On wing end a 3-light casement with
8/8 sash over. Mostly cambered lintels. Included for group value. Thompson,
