Country House of c1700 with wall of 1582 and mid C19 additions. Ashlar
with plinth and high hipped Collyweston slate roof. 4 moulded ashlar
ridge stacks. Very small parapet and moulded cornice. 2½ storeys. Entrance
front of 10 1/1 sash windows with moulded stone frames and keystones.
Central section altered mid C19 to break forward with 3 windows under
a pediment with cartouche of arms in tympanum. Below is a semi-circular
open porch with 4 Roman Doric columns up 2 stone steps. Above the modillion
cornice 3 carved stone crests of a head and 2 heraldic animals. Doorway
has pediment, cushion frieze and part glazed door. On the roof 6 dormers
with 6/6 sash windows. On left end a sash window both floors and 2 further
sashes to mid C19 1 storey extension to rear. Right end has further windows,
2 blocked mullion windows and a stone tablet with a coat of arms and
1582. Rear or garden front, has a portion centre left where the main
roof breaks forward hipped as in the French style. Right side stack,
4/4 sash dormer to front and similar to left side. Below a slightly pro-
jecting central section with a sash both floors either side. This section
has a Venetian door motif with a door of 2 part-glazed leaves, fanlight
over, and a 4/4 sash either side. Impost band. Over this doorway is a
sill band and a 6/6 sash within an elaborate pedimented frame. The pediment
at parapet level contains stone cartouche of arms. To left of central
portion a 2 storey projection with flat roof, further sashes and dormer
on roof behind. To right 2 sashes both floors and a dormer over. On extreme
right the mid C19 addition of 1 storey with low hipped roof, left projecting
stack and large canted bay, with sash windows. Inside some contemporary
features remain.
