SK 91 SW CHURCH LANE (West side)

Village Well

GV II

Former village well of mid C19. Ashlar. In Gothic style c3m high. Back
wall has shouldered coped gable with open trefoil within. Below is inscrip-
tion tablet with niche underneath. Within niche a small stone lion's
head. To either side of niche a miniature buttress and low convex walls
curving forward. Opening in centre. Base concreted C20. Inscription
reads 'All ye who hither come to drink/Rest not your thoughts below/Remember
Jacob's well and think/Whence "living waters" flow.'
